This is an open tryout announcement for Lakers Intercity (travelling teams). Players are invited to tryout in their respective age category. To participate in tryouts you must be registered with WILBA and have paid the basic registration fees. If coming from other club you MUST have a signed release! No exception.

The evening started by opening remarks from Jonathan Merritt (Head Coach Juvenile Boys AAA and Director of Players Development)

Following Jon was our guest speaker Albena Branzona, Head Coach of UQAM Citadins Women’s program. Albena an accomplished basketball player talked to our players about the “Dream”. She was accompanied by one of her player Jessica Lubin who was name athlete of the year for the entire Citadins program.

Alan Misner Award

The Alan Misner award is presented in memory of a young WILBA athlete who truly represented WILBA’s values.
The candidate should encompass all of the qualities of a team player, one that leads by example, has great work ethic, dedication, encouragement and support of teammates, respect of coaches and demonstrates sportsmanship among their rivals.

The West Island Lakers Basketball Association offers a competitive basketball program for boys and girls ages 10‐18. WILBA competitive teams participate in the Montreal Basketball League and Ligue Féminine de basketball du Québec.

Each competitive team practices twice per week and participates in league play as well as local and out of town tournaments over the course of the basketall season. Team selections are held in September and the season begins in October and runs through to May.

A high level of commitment is expected from players selected to WILBA competitive teams. Players are expected to attend all practices, games and tournaments.

WILBA will be fielding the following competitive teams for the 2016‐2017 basketball season:

Boys Division
  • Mini: born in 2005 and 2006
  • Bantam: born in 2003 and 2004
  • Midget: born in 2001 and 2002
  • Juvenile: born in 1999 and 2000
Girls Division
  • Mini: born between Oct 1st 2004 and Dec 31st 2007
  • Bantam: born between Oct 1st 2002 and Dec 31st 2004
  • Midget: born between Oct 1st 2000 and Dec 31st 2002
  • Juvenile: born between Oct 1st 1998 and Dec 31st 2001



Players are invited to tryout in their respective age category. No players will be allowed to tryout for an older age category. To participate in tryouts you must be registered with WILBA and have paid the basic registration fees. If selected an additional “Intercity” fee will be charge.

Can Anyone tryout?
Tryouts are open to anyone registered with WILBA. If you are not a registered member of WILBA, you will need to register online or at one of the OPEN Registration sessions held every season in September.

What is the tryout process?
Following each tryout session, some players may be released to House League. After 4 or 5 tryout sessions the roster is normally announced. All players are contacted by the coach and told of the outcome of their tryout.
