Get Involved

We believe we have the best team of volunteers of any West Island youth sports organization, but we need more help. If you are interested in helping to make WILBA even better, please contact us at the following Email address: volunteer@wilba.net

Here are the current available volunteering opportunities for the current and next season:

  • Coaches/Assistant Coaches for all levels! Prior experience coaching or playing is an asset, but not a requirement. We provide you with the required training!

Description: You will be responsible for planning and organizing practices for your team with support from our Technical Director. You will direct your team during games with emphasis on player development, sportsmanship, fairness and respect for all players, other coaches and officials.

Estimated time commitment: 1 hr practice per week + 1.5 hr game per week

  • Division Managers/Assistant Division Managers - several levels. no basketball knowledge required.

Description: You will make/balance house league teams in your division, manage relationships with Coaches and parents and plan all regular season and play-off games.

Estimated time commitment: 10-15 hours per week at beginning of season; 5 - 10 hours per week thereafter.

  • Website manager - no basketball knowledge required. IT/marketing experience would be an asset.

Description: You will manage all content on the WILBA website and social media platforms to ensure timely and accurate communications to all members and to promote WILBA within the West Island community.

Estimated time commitment: 5 hours per week.

  • Registrar - no basketball knowledge required. Computer knowledge would be an asset.

Description: Develop and maintain registration program for approval by Executive Committee; Set up yearly registrations (House league, Inter city, summer camp & Elite program); Compile a list of volunteers for coaches, assistant coach, managers, referee and minor official (this is done through registration);  Provide projections of registrations by levels for the following year. Report to the Executive Committee on all registration matters at Executive Committee meetings; Submit a written report at each regular and Annual General Meeting;

Estimated time commitment: 3 hours per week at beginning of season (August-November); 1-2 hours per week thereafter + monthly 2 hours/month for Board of Directors’ meeting.

  • Secretary - no basketball knowledge required.

Description: Take minutes of each Board of Directors’ meeting;  Submit a written report at each Annual and Special General Meeting;  Prepare and give notices of all Annual and Special General Meetings and meetings of the Executive Committee;  Update the Constitution and By-Laws, as amended; and  Table and respond to correspondence as directed by the Executive Committee and maintain a record of correspondence.

Estimated time commitment: 6 hours per month.

  • Director of Equipment - no basketball knowledge required, thorough knowledge of youth sports equipment suppliers would be an asset.

Description: In collaboration with VP House League and VP Intercity, the Director of Equipment must plan and procure all equipment required by WILBA coaches and players during the year. This includes uniforms, balls, pinnies, game management and training equipment. Submit a written report at each regular and Annual General Meeting;  

Estimated time commitment:  15 hours per week at beginning of season; 5 hours week thereafter + 3 hours/month for Board of Directors’ meeting.

  • Director of Marketing/Communications - no basketball knowledge required. Knowledge of marketing, communications, youth sports and bilingualism would be an asset.

Description: Develop, execute and manage all communications with WILBA stakeholders in relation to our programs, events and general operations. Develop a yearly ops plan and budget for all marketing activities;  Report to the Executive Committee on all initiatives at Executive Committee meetings;  Submit a written report at each regular and Annual General Meeting;  

Estimated time commitment: 10 hours per week at beginning of season; 2 hours week thereafter + 3 hours/month for Board of Directors’ meeting.

  • Canteen Manager - no basketball knowledge required. Strong organizational skills and relationships with providers of food merchandise would be an asset.

Description: Plan and manage canteen operations for the benefit of our Intercity programs by providing the best possible service to our members.

Estimated time commitment: 10 hours per week at beginning of season; 2 hours week thereafter.

  • Fundraising manager- no basketball knowledge required. Strong organizational skills and relationships with potential sponsors would be an asset.

Description: Plan and manage all fundraising activities for the benefit of our membership.

Estimated time commitment: 10 hours per week at beginning of season; 2 hours week thereafter.

• Pinnie Washers (for the evaluations, and the first few weeks of games)

• Graphic Designer

• Sian Bradwell Event Coordinators

• Lost and Found Coordinator

• Gym Supervisors
