Giving Back

Since 2001 at the end of January, WILBA volunteers organise a basketball fundraising event to benefit the Sian Bradwell Fund. Since it’s conception 20 years ago, over $266,800.00 has been raised during this annual event. All proceeds collected from this fundraiser go towards the Montreal Children’s Hospital to help childhood cancer patients.

Information about the Sian Bradwell Fund
• Established formally at the Montreal Children’s Hospital on October 3rd, 1990 — the sixth anniversary of Sian’s birth — and incorporated by letters patent as a non-profit organisation in 2000

• 100% volunteer-based. All activities are conducted by volunteers, including those of the advisory board; we have no salaried staff.

• Volunteers in Toronto started raising funds for the Hospital For Sick Children (HSC) in 1992 and McMaster Children’s in 2011.

• Main objective of the Fund is to purchase medical equipment and other items deemed necessary for better diagnosis and treatment of children with cancer. Upon special request, the Fund may purchase items other than medical equipment for compassionate reasons. Items purchased in the past includes special mattresses to ease the pain of children in the terminal stages, and wigs for children who have lost their hair due to chemotherapy.

• 100% of all monetary donations go to the purchase of medical equipment.

• Over $1,700,000 has been donated to the Hospitals as of 2018
